Madrid will become the world capital of Deep Science with Science for Industry (S4i), an event that, in its second edition, expands horizons and incorporates new elements to cover and enhance the entire national and international industrial technological ecosystem. The meeting, organized by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid(UAM) and the fund manager BeAble Capital, will take place at LaNave de Madrid on January 18 and 19.
Companies, universities, and research centers will connect with institutions such as the European Commission, the European Investment Fund, the European InvestmentBank, and various European Science Equity funds, establishing crucial links for technological and industrial advancement.
“This initiative was born out of the problem we detected in the amount of knowledge and talent that exists in universities and research centers but does not always find its way into the business sector. We believed that we were missing substantial opportunities to improve society, so having a meeting point where all the nodes of the innovative ecosystem connect is a very important milestone to address it,” explains Félix Zamora, Vice-Rector for Transfer at the UniversidadAutónoma de Madrid.
This vision has given rise to a new concept of an event structured around three fundamental axes that involve the entire deep technology ecosystem with the aim of giving visibility to the mechanism that allows industry to emerge from the seeds created by Deep Science.
On one hand, theGlobal Summit (Patents for Innovation), showcasing technological tools such as the Digital Patent Catalog and the Industrial Challenges Platform, will connect registered patents with the current challenges of the sector. It provides a perfect setting that offers multiple platforms and exhibition areas for universities and research centers.
The InvestorDay, a new exclusive networking section that can only be accessed by scheduling meetings in advance. The deadline for participating as a startup is open until Wednesday, December 20, for all companies whose technologies in sectors such as energy, biotechnology, new materials, and nanotechnology are rooted in Deep Science.
Finally, the Facing Challenges Summit, a meeting of Science Equity funds that, after its consolidation in two previous editions in Madrid, now merges with S4i."With this addition, we will be able to attract all the pieces of the ecosystem, as investors, national and European public agents, startups, industrial companies, universities, and research centers can coincide. It will be the ideal showcase to contemplate new technologies and products arising from science and deep knowledge," says Alberto Díaz, founding partner ofBeAble Capital and organizer of the event alongside UAM.
Among the speakers at Science for Industry are prominent names such as Diana Morant, Minister of Science, Innovation, and Universities; Shiva Dustdar, Director and Head of the EIB Institute; or Avelino Corma, researcher at the Institute of Chemical Technology, as well as the European Inventor Award 2023 for'Lifetime Achievement.'
The presence of Fraser Stoddart, Nobel Prize winner, adds a distinctive seal of scientific excellence to S4i, an event that, following the success of the first edition ofPatents for Innovation (P4i), consolidates itself as a reference stage for disruptive research projects in the most influential industrial sectors.
Science forIndustry is held at a crucial moment for our country, ranking 29th out of the39 European countries listed in the Global Innovation Index, highlighting the importance of collaboration between knowledge-generating entities and companies to drive economic and social growth. A framework where the maturity of VentureCapital markets and the positive perception of investment in innovation emerge as key factors for progress.
