Minister of Economy, Trade, and Enterprise since December 2023, Carlos Cuerpo holds a degree in Economics (2003) from the University of Extremadura, a Master's in Economics from the London School of Economics (2004), and a PhD in Economics from the Autonomous University of Madrid (2017). Since 2008, he has been a member of the Senior Corps of Trade and State Economists. From August 2021 to December 2023, he served as Secretary General of the Treasury and International Financing. Prior to this, he was: Director General for Macroeconomic Analysis at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation (Feb. 2020 – Aug. 2021). Head of the Economic Analysis Division at the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF) (Nov. 2016 – Jan. 2020). Deputy Director General of Public Debt at AIReF (May 2014 – Oct. 2016). He also worked as an Economic Analyst at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (May 2011 – Apr. 2014) and as an Economic Analyst at the Directorate-General for Macroeconomic Analysis and International Economics of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (May 2008 – Apr. 2011).
