Jorge Sicilia is Chief Economist of the BBVA Group and Director of BBVA Research. He leads a global team of economists spread across Europe, Hong Kong, Turkey, Mexico and South America dedicated to economic and financial analysis. He is a member of the COAP and the BBVA Regulatory Committee. Previously, Jorge Sicilia was Chief Economist for North America, was Principal Economist in the Monetary Policy Division at the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt, Chief Economist of Monetary and Financial Markets at BBVA in Madrid, Director of Economic and Monetary Studies at Argentaria, Director of Economic and Market Analysis at Analistas Financieros Internacionales (AFI) and Economist in the Department of Economic Studies of the Competition Court. He has been a professor of macroeconomics, financial markets and financial systems at CUNEF and at the Carlos III University of Madrid, in addition to teaching at postgraduate institutions and participating in academic conferences. He is a regular speaker at numerous events with BBVA clients, business associations, international organizations, think tanks and central banks. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1992, and has a Master's degree in Economics and Finance from the Center for Monetary and Financial Studies (CEMFI) in 1994. He is the author of several publications in specialized magazines. Currently, he is a member of the Executive Committee of Fedea in Spain and of Fundef in Mexico.
