José Francisco Fernández Lozano has devoted his career to manipulating nanoparticles to create new materials with tailored properties. 'With nanoparticles, we can make a material magnetic or conductive that otherwise wouldn't be; we can change its properties,' he explains. He received the ROYAL SPANISH SOCIETY OF PHYSICS - BBVA FOUNDATION PHYSICS AWARD. This research professor at the Institute of Ceramics and Glass of the CSIC in Madrid has also worked to translate his scientific fascination into technology accessible to the public. He is a co-author of 35 patent families, with around fifteen of them already licensed. Products based on these patents are already on the market, such as sun filters in creams and systems to ensure the authenticity of a document. He has also founded two spin-off companies."
