José Luis López

Advisor to the President of Talgo

José Luis López Gómez (Quintanilla-Valdebodres, Merindad de Sotoscueva, October 16, 1941) is a Spanish engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur. As an executive at the company Patentes Talgo, he has been a clear promoter of innovation and technology applied to railway transportation, particularly Spanish technology for the manufacture of high-speed trains. Among his many inventions, the Talgo variable gauge system stands out, which allows trains to operate without stopping, for example, on tracks with both Spanish and European gauges. Another notable invention is the underfloor lathe for machining train wheels without having to disassemble them, which helps to avoid vibrations during train operation, thus improving passenger comfort.
