Repsol is currently involved in a challenge focused on the multiple and potentially combined uses of soil for energy production. The company is working to improve and optimise the use of land for the generation of multiple forms of energy, either on degraded land or through the use of natural species in ecosystems. This is in response to European legislation and with the aim of taking advantage of the synergies generated by combining different technologies, such as energy crops and photovoltaic energy.

One of Repsol's goals is to enable the monetisation of CO2 elimination through the trading of carbon credits in the voluntary CO2 emissions markets. To achieve this, the use of biofertilisers and biochar is being researched and developed. These biomass-derived products can be used to improve soil quality and effectively sequester carbon from the atmosphere.

By combining different technological approaches and harnessing natural resources in a sustainable way, Repsol seeks not only to maximise energy production, but also to promote soil regeneration and contribute to climate change mitigation. By using soil efficiently and applying innovative agricultural and energy techniques, sustainable and diversified energy production can be achieved.
